The Secret Life of Rebecca

You may know me as your go-to, resourceful, strategy-driven OBM and CEO of my own business: The 25th Hour. But what do you really know about me – Rebecca – the person? Who am I when I’m not wearing the Chief Everything Officer hat? Well, here are a few things that don’t get mentioned during our strategy calls:

I auditioned for Clown College with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Seriously! It was a spur of the moment decision. I even had to ask my boss for permission to attend the live audition since it was during working hours. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise to have been rejected…if I had pursued clown college, I wouldn’t be in your corner supporting you!

I was born and bred in NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana)!

Y’all; a drive-through daiquiri shop is a real thing! My hometown knows how to party; celebrating Mardi Gras elevated my expectations for parades; I was so bored at my first parade outside of New Orleans. My senior “skip day” involved a crawfish boil. I thought all cemeteries had above-ground graves. And I had no idea that the rest of the U.S. wasn’t just as hot and sticky in the summer!

I have anosmia (no sense of smell).

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is textured because Ben, like me, has anosmia! Ben’s condition was something he’s had from birth. In 2016, I had brain surgery to remove a golf ball-sized tumor. The tumor robbed me of my sense of smell, but I gained superpowers through radiation! Kidding (maybe)! I underwent proton radiation therapy in 2019 when the tumor tried to come back. I can still taste sweet and salt on my tongue, and my brain still tells me I don’t like certain foods although I can’t really taste them. It’s definitely a bummer to not smell anything around me; I have no idea what’s cooking, literally. You can read more about my relationship with my brain in the blog entry, I’m Alive and OK: My Simple Silver Lining.

In 2009, I walked 30 miles and fundraised over $6,000 for Multiple Sclerosis.

What a rush that was – stretching my project management and organizational muscles! From the get-go, I set out to do what I said I would do, raising over $6,000 for the Historic Williamsburg MS Challenge Walk! Read more about this nifty accomplishment in my blog: Don’t Just Volunteer Your Time, Volunteer your Genius.

Throughout my life, I’ve been super-charging my OBM superpowers, in-part through a variety of experiences, but especially by working with my clients whom I love! We all know that people do business with people they like, and I really hope you found something to love about me!

Share your awesomeness in the comments! I’d love to get to know you!
